Hi my name is Sandra and this is me in Egypt just a few weeks ago. When this picture was taken little did I know what was going to happen to me on my return. Well, I was one of the people that had an extra week in Egypt due to the volcanic ash in Iceland closing down all the airspace, but me and my Egyptian partner thought that was great another week together.
As we were both staying in Luxor we spent a lot of time sitting, by the Nile, with our feet in the water, or sailing, and jumped over many a boat to get back on dry land. It was bliss. But what I didn't realise was that all the times I had my feet in the water and we were in grass so there were mosquitoes that like to bite you.
On my return, within 3 days, I started to shiver uncontrollably, I was at work and asked if I could go home I felt so cold. (We had been in very HOT temperatures) so I took myself off to bed. The next day I couldn't move and had to stay in bed all day, so the next day worrying about the threat of 'd.v.t.' dragged myself to the Doctor. Thank god I did, he looked at my poor leg swollen and red and my foot swollen to double the size, and said I had a nasty insect bite, put me on some vile tablets that did not agree with me, and said I was to come back the next day. When my own Doctor saw me she said it was 'cellulitus' and I had to get to the Hospital, now today. Thankfully I was seen by the Doctor and lovely nursing staff, had loads of blood tests and sent on my way armed with more tablets.
So, here I am today, desparate to get back to work, as have been off sick with this since my return. As I look out the window it is dull and grey, no sunshine in sight. All I have are my lovely memories of my time in Egypt of course I have to return and to see my partner of course.
Sandra.
oh dear, the curse of the Tropics!! take care!!!
